Dress Up For Dinner

A while back I did a blog post about dining rooms, and how most homes I go into have a formal dining room, but they never seem to get used, except for maybe two or three times per year. Check out the article here

My recommendation has always been to maybe think about using the dining room for another function that will allow you to use it more often, or even make it have a dual purpose, keeping the dining function as an option.

Maybe there is another way to ensure that your dining room gets used more. How about starting a new family tradition, or maybe go back to what our parents and grandparents did years ago? – Dress up for dinner. Invite over a few of your neighbors, friends, and coworkers, and make dinner a special occasion again. Maybe  once a week, or even once a month.

I don’t mean dressing up in formal attire, but I would say to pull out the fine china that has been hidden away for years, set the table with your finest linens, don your favorite outfit, and pull out the beautiful jewelry that you hardly ever wear.

And speaking of jewelry you have to own 🙂 , I just have to give a plug to one of my favorite jewelry makers: Roslyn Tanner Evans of Earth and Moon Design. Roslyn and her daughter Beth handcraft their beaded necklaces guided by the tantalizing colors, shapes and textures of their medium. Their work is sold at locations in Fire Island, Connecticut, Rockland and Westchester County, N.Y. as well as online. Look how amazing this piece goes with my dining room project!

How is this for dressing up for dinner?

I am so drawn to their beautiful pieces and the use of materials and color. Just like I love to infuse color into my projects, so do Roz and Beth in their beautiful works of art

Here’s one of my favorite pieces

I am pretty sure that you would get tons of compliments from your dinner guests…..even if it’s just you, your son and your dog (Kinda like me 🙂 )

This one reminds me of the color scheme I used on a recent living room project

And how about this one for this bedroom?

Or my favorite shades of orange and blue in this recently completed living room project

Even this nursery can feel right at home with Roslyn’s and Beth’s handy work

You can see how excited I get talking about these beautiful pieces from Earth and Moon Design. Their Spring sale is going on now. Get 20% off plus free shipping in the United States. Be sure to stop by!
