Thanks for checking out the progress of Josh’s Teen Bedroom for week 2 of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at Calling It Home.

Over the next 6 weeks, I will take it from messy “war” zone with zero storage, to a fun and unique teen boy’s retreat complete with tons of storage!
I did not make much progress this week: It was Spring Market here in Houston at the Design Center and so I spent two days soaking up design inspirations from the likes of Rachel Ashwell, the queen of Shabby Chic; Jan Showers; and Barbara Westbrook. All powerful women in the design industry, and who I aspire to be someday.

The key fabric has been ordered as well. That will be used for the window treatment and a couple of pillow shams
The room has not been painted yet, and I was so sure that I would get at least that done. I decided not to do the accent wall after all (I was never really a big fan of accents walls but have done them a few times when it makes sense in the room). Instead I decided to paint the built-ins in the dark gray color originally intended for the accent wall. I have all the paint already purchased so that will happen after the floors and built-ins

The plywood was also purchased and cut into 6″ strips by Home Depot. They are sitting in the garage now awaiting installation on Saturday. I purchased 5 sheets of pre-sanded, cabinet grade plywood. This will make life a lot easier since it requires less sanding. This floor will end up costing about $500 when it is all said and done, with materials and labor! Can’t beat that!

Joshua suggested painting his closet doors and his room door in the dark gray, and I love that idea, so it is a go! I think my crazy door painting ways is rubbing off on him. See my latest door painting project here, but you should know that this door is just one of many 🙂
The dresser has not been painted yet either 🙁 That I am sooooo anxious to get done!
The Sputnik chandelier has been ordered for a few weeks now. It is actually meant for my stairway, but I will order a new one for there since the ORC deadline is looming. The upholstered headboard is also in production now and I am hoping to have it back this week.
Josh is working on some art pieces for his room, as we are still not sure where and how we will hang them. There is very limited wall space in his room, and the map will take up most of it. Remember the map of the US? The Inspiration for the room’s color palette?
So this week was most mostly spent ordering stuff for the room. The momentum will build next week. I leave for High Point, North Carolina for Spring Furniture Market from April 18th to 23rd, so I will be losing a few working days there as well. I am really hoping I didn’t bite off much more than I can chew here! Yikes! My son is worth the hard work though 🙂
