One Room Challenge Spring 2019 - Week 5 - Count Down To The Finish Line

Updated: May 4, 2019

I get asked all the time how I get so much done. And honestly, I don't know the answer to that question other than I get up everyday ready to work, and just do what needs to be done.

There is a certain energy I get from being a busy, working designer, and it fuels my passion and purpose. I consider myself blessed to wake up everyday doing what I love

This week pushed the boundaries for me in a big way though. On top of my One Room Challenge master bedroom, I am also doing my master bathroom, and several projects for clients where scheduling trades people is a major part of the deliverables. So imagine what a week it's been trying to get people where they need to be, in addition to getting ready for the ORC Big Reveal which is closing in FAST.

Despite the challenges, I am having so much fun with this project.

Many of you may already know this about me, but the decorating layer of the design process is my favorite part. This is where a room shows personality, warmth, comfort, and makes you want to stay awhile

If you are new to the blog, you can get caught up on what the One Room Challenge is HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE - these are my progress posts over the past 4 weeks. But you must come back next Wednesday. That is the big day everyone is waiting for - The BIG Reveal! Not just my room, but the 19 other featured designers for this season plus all the guest participants rooms, and there are hundreds.

Here they are, in case you missed it. Ursula for Home Made By Carmona, and I were chosen by media partner, Better Homes and Gardens for this season. That adds a whole other layer of pressure, but total pleasure to the challenge.

Be sure to follow the other designers to see what they are up to

And some of my amazing vendor partners who also stepped in as sponsors for my room:

Kravet, Helser Brothers, Kelly-Moore Paints, Creative Style Furniture, Laura Rathe Fine Arts, S&L Designs

But I know you are here to see the progress, so let's get to it.

I got so much done this week, and I am pretty proud of myself.

The gorgeous wallpaper from Pacific Designs is one of the big stars of this room. It adds such depth and sophistication. You will see in the big reveal next week, that contrary to what people may think. black walls make a room feel bigger. It's what you pair it with that will make all the difference

You can see a tiny glimpse of the Hunt Slonem original loaned to me by Laura Rathe Fine Art for my room reveal. I am so in love with it and wish I could keep it. But you can. Come back next week to see how you can own this gorgeous piece.

It has the right amount of whimsy, but still adds an element of luxury to the room

Here is another iPhone shot, and here you can get a great view of the GORGEOUS wing back chair from Scout Design Studio, that I had custom covered in this beautiful floral fabric.

And take a peek of the trim detail on the draperies. The beautiful black silk fabric and trim are from Fabricut. I designed this room to be layers of black - from the walls, to the draperies and even some of the furnishings, and then pop with contrast in color and pattern

Here you can see a tiny glimpse of the custom bed by S&L Designs and the beautiful drapery hardware by Helser Brothers

I decided to go super beefy on the hardware, as a nod to the sophisticated "more is more" theme of the room

I am so in love with the Emtek door hardware. So beautiful. I just noticed that I need to clean my door casing :-)

I love bringing in florals and greenery, but my black thumb means they don't last very long. NDI has amazing faux floral options that look so real. They are my go to supplier for all my design projects

This is one of the cute little ottomans by Lamps Plus that will serve as footrests for me as I lounge in my new space

I am super excited to be using a Meg Caswell for Couture Lamps lamp. This one immediately caught my eye, because it has that almost architectural, classic presence to it

So the cool mirror above my bed is making me so happy. I love it!

Let's not forget about the beautiful switches, outlets and wall plates by LeGrand. They look so clean and streamlined against the wallpaper. This is an upgrade that I will be giving every client from now on. I cannot even imagine a room without them now.

So What's Next?

We will have the sofa installed today. I popped by Creative Style Furniture to drop off some trim yesterday and I could see them busy putting the final touches on everything

You can see the buillon trim that will be the skirt of the sofa. It is metallic and quite stunning

I am really very proud of this piece. It is a custom upholstered hair on hide that will be available in the Veronica Solomon Style collection. You will be able to order a custom size and fabric, leather or hide of your choice very soon

I already love the new look of the desk chair, which is an old cast off chair that I had Creative Style refinish, and it will be covered in a gorgeous Clarence House cheetah print fabric. So excited to see it!

The bedding is still in production with my local workroom. I already received the gorgeous pillows from Arianna Belle that will really add some luxury to my bedroom. Can't wait!

Photography is scheduled for tomorrow, and I think I will be ready.

Come back next week to see the BIG REVEAL. Be sure to head to the One Room Challenge website to check out the guest participants as well.

As you can see, lots left to do but we are on it
