A Few Of My Favorite Trends From High Point Market

Updated: Sep 7, 2020

It’s been about a week since I returned from my trip to High Point Furniture Market, and I have been super slammed ever since! Not only do I have several projects going, but I am knee deep in the build-out of my new storefront slated to open in mid to late November. The blog has suffered a bit as a result, but I could not wait to pop in today to share some of my favorite trends from High Point Furniture Market. I love visiting at least once per year to really get inspired, and see the latest and greatest int he world of interior design, and I love bringing some of these amazing new products to my projects.

There were so many vendors and products that I was drawn to; and while I don’t necessarily follow trends with my design work, it is always great to see what’s new. There were definitely a few products that I am very excited about!

I know you love to look at pretty furnishings too, as was evident from my Instagram posts, as well as Facebook while I was Market. Thanks to all of you who followed along and expressed how much you were enjoying seeing the images I was posting. Check out some of what you may have missed. And remember that anything you see and love and would love to have, I can make it happen. Just reach out to me

Colors

Bold color was definitely everywhere at Market, but neutrals also held their own, and were equally beautiful and dramatic. Some of the colors seen everywhere were black, emerald green, soft pink, and blue. A bit of Caliente – which is Benjamin Moore’s Color Of The Year for 2018 was evident at a few showrooms, but not in abundance. I love bold colors in my designs, but bold color is not for everyone. Some ways to incorporate them in a room would be in accents and accessories.

Curves on upholstery

This is definitely a trend we saw at the April Market as well, and it was definitely the case at Fall Market. Beautiful upholstery pieces with beautiful curves were show stoppers. Pieces with curves – especially larger upholstered pieces are always a great space saver in a room. They also help to unify and to soften “hard lines’ in the space

Tribal Pieces

I love when a space feels collected or well-traveled, and tribal pieces are a great way to turn up the eclectics in a room. These pieces had to be my favorite finds at Market. I am dying to own a few of those cute little stools

Velvets

I love velvets. It is one of my favorite fabrics to use in my design projects. The luxurious hand and subtle sheen always elevates a room. Velvets could be seen on upholstered pieces everywhere – whether patterned or solid, the look was always striking

Sexy Back Chairs

Also known as chairs with their backs all done up, even more than the fronts. Sexy back chairs have been big for the last few Markets and continue to be a trend. And since I am a sucker for gorgeous chairs in general, here are some of my favorites

Bold Art

The bolder the better. I love incorporating bold and color art in my designs, and this Market did not disappoint. In fact, this snake piece is already on order 🙂

Bold Floral

A feminine yet bold touch! Bold florals made a strong statement, especially when layered in a room

Black and White

What’s classic, and never goes out of style? Black and white combination will always be a trend. It can have such diverse effects depending on how it is used in a room. Black and white can be bold, it can be neutral, it can be sophisticated, and it can be dramatic

Unique Lighting

One category I always am sure to look for at Market is lighting. The right light fixture can take a room from basic to extraordinary. Light fixtures are like the jewelry in a room, and the fact that they are overhead, makes them even more important for the overall look and feel of a well designed room

Bar Cabinets

Move over bar carts! Bar cabinets are where it’s at these days. I noticed them at Spring Market, and they really showed up at this Market. Beautiful, functional furnishings that bring just a bit of pleasure at the end of a long day.

Textiles

I am always on the lookout for gorgeous textiles because it is my favorite part of design. These were some gorgeous hand made pillows that I fell in love with

Classic Beauty

Never goes out of style and never needs improvement. Well maybe if it’s in black and gold 🙂

Gold

There is still a strong presence of gold finishes in furniture and lighting. I think gold is here to stay. I did not see much of rose gold – I personally was never a fan of it

Organic

Organic pieces will always be a part of design – trend or not. I love seeing some organic pieces scattered throughout Market
