What You Can Expect For Design Trends In 2025

I call myself the unwilling trend spotter, because as much as I try to steer clear of design trends and focus more on timeless and unique designs, there is no denying that there are certain design elements that just cannot be ignored, and will make their way into the spaces we will create in 2025 to some extent.

Sometimes they are design elements that are either too late to the consumer market, or grossly overdone, or more of a fad than a trend.

Trends do show up in every type of consumer goods you can imagine, so each year, I make it my duty to spot what's coming up for the new year.

So, what design trends are the most noteworthy for 2025?

  1. Earthy and Warm Colors

Even I, a bold color lover have to admit that neutrals and warm earthy tones are going to be big in 2025 and I'm not mad at it.

After years of all things grey, it is actually quite a relief to see the resurgence of warmer colors. From browns, to mocha to clay tones, these rich neutrals are great for grounding a space and creating a more moody vibe.

It is easy to pull off a truly dynamic design by layering several tones in this range of neutrals.

You can already see it from Pantone, with Mocha Mousse being the color of the year for 2025.

The jury is still out for me on how I feel about this color as a wall color for example, but I believe that any color can work in the right context.

The Benjamin Moore Color Of The Year 2025 - Cinnamon Slate is a delicate mix of plum and brown.

The Sherwin Williams Color Capsule For 2025, with its range of colors that are rich, modern and work with lots of design aesthetics is one that brings me immense joy.

  1. Skirted Beds

This is one trend I will happily get behind!

I love an upholstered bed for the comfort that it brings - especially if you are a reader who likes to read in bed like me.

The dressmaker skirt adds a traditional touch but still keeping it pretty modern with the very tailored application.

  1. Rounded Forms

We've seen capsule shapes in previous years, but more and more we are seeing furnishings with less linear silhouettes and more rounded forms.

You can find round silhouettes on everything from case goods to upholstery and accent pieces.

This mohair sofa below with the pancake shape pillows is a modern play on a classic style sofa.

  1. Natural Stone In Accent Pieces & Lighting

I hope this trend is here to stay. I love a good mix of natural stone mixed with other materials in occasional pieces, lighting and accessories.

  1. Granny Prints

Granny prints have always been silently in the background. Especially in traditional European design. But we are seeing more and more that they are taking center stage.

They are especially beautiful in velvet fabrics and moody tones.

We will begin to see these grounding prints in larger upholstered goods versus smaller pieces like pillows.

  1. Reeding

We will continue to see reeded pieces in furniture and millwork.

Reeding is one of those timeless classics that never goes out of style. While it's everywhere right now, I thing there is more mileage left in this trend.

I think we can also look out for interiors with a bit of a retro flare.
