I am blessed to have the most amazing clients. What I love most is getting to know them and their stories. Learning all about the things that are important to them makes it easier to design their dream.
But it goes way beyond designing and decorating a home for our clients. It is helping them live their best lives. It's helping them live their dream. It's helping them incorporate their history, traditions, heritage, culture. It's helping them live the present and helping them build their future. This is an awesome responsibility, and we honor that by doing our best work and making the process easy for our clients.
Recently on a new consultation, I met a couple who truly inspired me. They are a family of four - pre-teen son and daughter. I was fascinated by the stories they shared with me and the things that are important to them
Their home was built back in the 1960's by one of Houston's top custom builders. They are only the second owners of the home, and when they bought it, they established a relationship with the older lady who owned it, and have remained friends with her to this day
Preserving the home's history and character is very important to them, and one of their requests is keeping as much of the original charm of the home as possible. They expressed such pride in the home, and to them, it's more than a house; it's more than them being homeowners - they are stewards of the property, and they plan to keep it in their family for a very long time.
But the most striking thing they said to me that day, is that their home is about building a legacy for their kids and future generations. You can tell how well they raise their beautiful kids and they only want the best for them. They are determined to provide them with the best education, teach them how to manage finances and prepare them for a successful future. They clearly want their children to have the life they didn't have growing up, and their home is a part of this vision and dream they have for their children
They are designing their home to build a legacy, build wealth and raise their kids the best possible way. That inspired me, and I definitely take the role as their designer very seriously
We will be working on remodeling a small half bathroom and turning it into a full bathroom, and designing the room that the family spends a lot of time in together - the game room. It has been fun putting together the plans so far.
Your home being your haven and a place where you can feel safe and nurtured is something that I talk to my clients about everyday, and now that I see home through the lens of this couple, I am more in-tuned to the fact that your home can also be a legacy and wealth builder, and the design itself must honor that.

The pandemic has also made it clear that our homes should be the safe, nurturing space with all the comforts and necessities you will need in difficult times in the world. Most of my design colleagues and I are seeing a major spike in new projects. The common theme seems to be the extended time at home during the quarantine, has made them more aware of the things about their homes that just don't work. They now want more purposeful and intentional design. After all, your home is much more than the way it looks, but also about how it makes you feel, and even more than that, the feelings that it actually promotes
